In my publishing house appeared: ZUR KENNTNIS DES SCHACHPROBLEMS Critiques and selected problems By A. Bayersdorfer With the portrait of the author and an appendix: From Bayersdorfer's playing practice explained and edited from his estate by J. Kohtz and C. Kockelkorn. The work records the career of a problem composer held in high esteem, an unrivaled subtle critic; it leads us into the intellectual workshop of a first-rate connoisseur of chess problems, a man who does not make any particular taste the basis of infallible artistic laws in problem composition, for whom there is no Bohemian, no German, no Anglo-American school of problemists, one of which he sometimes prefers, but who brings together all directions under the unifying concept of the beautiful. Everything that Bayersdorfer wrote about the chess problem throughout his life, and even more, everything he expressed orally to the editors, has been compiled in masterly arrangement with connecting texts in this work. It is written not in an arrogant doctrinal tone, nor in a prosaic reporter style, but with poetic ardor and excellent command of the material and presentation; from every line one can tell that the editors were faithful friends and enthusiastic admirers of the artist. The work truly deserves to be studied by every problem enthusiast and every problem composer.
